General FAQ

The criteria for the Beauty Without Cruelty (BWC) endorsement, is that all products and raw materials need to be suitable for vegans and vegetarians, and no raw material or product may be animal derived, or may have been tested on animals within a five year period of application, which in our case is 2007.

The good news is; that all Annique’s skin care, body care, cosmetics and fragrance products comply with these requirements. However our Forever Healthy range, which is largely encapsulated in softgel and hardgel gelatine, does not comply, as the gelatine is animal derived and therefore does not meet BWC’s requirements. Bone Broth also contains beef.

Annique respects BWC’s principles and practices and is pleased that all Annique skincare, cosmetic, beauty and fragrance products meet their specification. As far as the Forever Healthy range is concerned, the softgel encapsulation is the optimal method of distributing the product and to ensure optimal digestion and absorption of the vitamins and minerals, and we say this without apology.

Understanding expiry dates

All products have expiry dates and, at Annique, these dates are clearly printed on the packaging of every product. You will either see the full date (e.g.: 12/2019) on lifestyle products or the Period After Opening (PAO) symbols (e.g.: “6M” or “12M”) printed on skincare, body care and cosmetic products. These PAO symbols indicate that the product will begin to expire once you open it, within “3M” representing three months, “6M” indicating six months, etc.

Can products still be used?

It is normal for supplements to slowly breakdown as they age, and taking a recently expired product might be just as good as a newly manufactured one. So, in essence, as the Lifestyle Shake and Forever Healthy supplements reach their expiry date, for example, it doesn’t mean that they have gone bad, it only means that the strength indicated on the label may be lost over time.

Skincare FAQ

Annique has products that suit anyone, from birth to old age.

Yes, because an oily skin also shows evidence of dullness, ageing etc.

No. A serum cannot replace your moisturiser and your moisturiser cannot replace a serum.

From the age of four, start teaching your child to wash their face at night with Annique Baby Silky Soap and put on Baby Body Lotion after rinsing with Annique Rooibos tea. Children can start a routine, using skincare products and health supplements from about 10 years old.

We also recommend one OptiVite (to manage hormones and acne) and one OptiMega (for skin and brain health) per day from 10 to 16.

180° Skin Elements for Men

Essense

Definitely. Serums are developed for specific skin care concerns and have concentrated formulas. A little goes a long way. Miracle Tissue Oil is a dry oil for uneven skin-tone, scars and aged skin that can work wonders when used in conjunction with a serum.

Gold Beauty Bar

Since dental implants are such an expensive investment, we recommend that the client speaks to their dentist or dental surgeon if they are concerned about using the Annique Gold Beauty Bar.

Yes, they can use the Gold Beauty Bar if they are in remission and their doctor has given them the all clear.

Skincare Ailments

Prevention is the best cure when it comes to blackheads.

Cleanse: Remove pore-clogging dirt, make-up and oil from the skin’s surface every night before going to bed.

Exfoliate: Ensure that dead skin cells are removed (2x per week). This helps to prevent pores from clogging.

Pre-heat skin: Place a warm (not hot), damp Rooibos-infused facecloth on the areas of your face where you want to remove the blackheads for two to three minutes. Then gently pat the skin dry.

Extractions: Apply pressure around the clogged pore. You should  use a tissue or clean cotton gauze as a barrier between your hands and the blackhead itself. Rock your fingers back and forth around the clogged pore.

Remember that you’re trying to pop out an intact blockage made of dried oil and dead skin cells. You may need to experiment with different levels of pressure and different finger positions.

Don’t press so hard that you cut or bruise your skin. If you’re not able to remove the blackhead with these steps, you may need to give your skin some time to recover before trying again. If you still struggle it’s safest to have an aesthetician do it for you.

Hydrate: Keeping skin balanced helps prevent excess sebum production.

Products that can also assist to prevent blackheads from forming are:

  • Skin Detox
  • Liquid Skin Nutrition
  • Spotless
  • Freshener best suited to your skin type

Foundation is thicker and provides more coverage. BB Cream is light and, while it can conceal blemishes, it typically won’t cover scars, dark pigmentation spots or blemishes. You can use both together for even more coverage.

  1. Use a cool compress. Wet a clean washcloth with cooled down Rooibos-infused water and apply to eyes
  2. Keep your Forever Young Eye Therapy in the fridge and apply the cooled product to your eye area
  3. Cut down on fluids before bedtime and reduce salt in your diet
  4. Get enough sleep
  5. Sleep with your head slightly raised
  6. Reduce allergy symptoms

Keeping preteens’ skincare routines as simple as possible is important, so I like to create a three-step plan: cleanse, moisturise and protect.

Here are our recommendations:

  1. Cleanse with: Baby Moist Silky Soap Bar
  2. Moisturise with: Sensi Crème
  3. Protect with: Derma Protect SPF 20

Annique’s Rooibos tea is superior quality. It is tested at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. We guarantee 80% of our tea is tea leaves and 20% stalks, which makes the tea much higher in antioxidants and much stronger than the equivalent in some other brands.

Annique Lifestyle Shake

Annique’s Lifestyle Shake is full of vitamins and minerals, and children from the age of two can use the Lifestyle Shake as a supplement in their diet. It is much more than a meal replacement.

Yes the Lifestyle Shake is safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It works well for morning sickness. A great tip is to freeze the Shake in popsicles or ice trays and the suck on them rather than drinking the Shake when you feel nauseous.

You can find the age directions for each product on the Annique Academy.

Superfoods

Superfoods are exactly what the name suggests. They are superheroes from our food sources. They are labelled ‘super’, because they offer maximum nutritional benefits that our bodies require. They also contain large amounts of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. Antioxidants are especially important to our bodies, because they neutralise free radicals that can cause disease and tissue degeneration.

The idea behind the Superfood supplements is to add to your daily dietary requirements. They do not replace your Forever Healthy vitamin and mineral supplement products. Each Superfood is like a booster to your already existing Forever Healthy range.

It is still recommended that you continue with your Forever Healthy products. Each product has been developed to target specific health challenges.

It is always recommended to consult your healthcare practitioner before taking any vitamin and mineral supplement when you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

It is best to consult a healthcare professional prior to beginning a new supplement.

It is recommended that children from the age of 12 may use the Yellow or White Superfood capsules.

There are some self-care measures you can take to decrease the discomfort that varicose veins can cause. These same measures can also help prevent or slow the development of varicose veins. They include:

  • Exercise. Get moving. Walking is a great way to encourage blood circulation in your legs. Your doctor can recommend an appropriate activity level for you.
  • Watch your weight and your diet. Shedding excess pounds takes unnecessary pressure off your veins. What you eat can help too. Follow a low-salt diet to prevent swelling caused from water retention.
  • Watch what you wear. Avoid high heels. Low-heeled shoes work calf muscles more, which is better for your veins. Don’t wear tight clothes around your waist, legs or groin because these garments can reduce blood flow.
  • Elevate your legs. To improve the circulation in your legs, take several short breaks daily to elevate your legs above the level of your heart. For example, lie down with your legs resting on three or four pillows.
  • Avoid long periods of sitting or standing. Make a point of changing your position frequently to encourage blood flow.
  • Don’t sit with your legs crossed. Some doctors believe this position can increase circulation problems.
  1. OptiToniQ+ (16 drops per day added to chlorine-free water or any other beverage)
  2. OptiFlora (1x capsule – PM)
  3. OptiCalMag (2x capsules PM)
  4. Stomach Tea (to be enjoyed hot or cold throughout the day)

Body Care Ailments

Massage the area with Miracle Tissue Oil to increase circulation. This, in turn, promotes tissue growth, potentially decreasing the visibility of stretchmarks.

  1. Gently exfoliate hands with Crème Exfoliator or Enzymatic Exfoliator and rinse with Rooibos-infused water.
  2. Apply a few drops of Miracle Tissue Oil followed by Resque Crème throughout the day.
  3. Before going to bed repeat step 2 but add a thick layer of Resque Camphor Cream and cover hands with woolly gloves or some socks so that the product does not come off on your sheets.

You should avoid using the MTO Nourishing Treatment Shampoo if you’ve had a Brazilian hair treatment as it contains sulphates, but it is safe to use the MTO Nourishing Treatment Conditioner.

  1. Baby 2-in-1 Shampoo and Body Wash
  2. Hair Nutrition+
  3. Rooibos Miracle Tissue Oil
  4. Rinse hair with Rooibos Tea
  5. OptiDerm
  6. OptiMega

The Miracle Tissue Oil Nourishing Treatment Shampoo and Conditioner were developed with adults in mind; not children. It does contain a fragrance and when it comes into contact with your little one’s eyes it might result in a burning sensation. When taking this into consideration we would suggest children to use it from the age of 10.
